For sale at : 1978 Ford F-150 Ranger 4×4 survivor ranch truck, from out west in Big Sky Country. Sold new at Davey Motor in Columbus, Montana and lived most of it’s life dodging sagebrush and prickly pear cactus on a ranch in the northern Gallatin Valley. It’s everything a cowboy pickup should be- stick shift, brush guard, cab lights, gun rack, CB radio, hat holder, loud pipes. Starts, runs, and drives out well with rebuilt engine, pulls strong and smooth. If you’re like me and grew up driving these pickups, it’s a real way-back machine. Includes original jack and tools, owners manual with warranty plate, and Marti report. I have the original hubcaps and they are included along with the vintage Montana license plates shown. Exterior: Mostly original paint faded to a great patina. Only rust I can see(besides the obvious surface stuff) is in the driver floor, very common here from snowy boots melting water. Overall straight truck with bumps and bruises from a lifetime on the ranch, see detail pics including underside in the FLICKR album listed below and the YouTube walk around videos. The tailgate has been replaced and repainted, and the lower front of the right side box appears repainted, I don’t see any repairs or damage to that panel looking from the backside. Very honest truck with nothing to hide, what you see is what you get.

Interior: Clean, functional and usable as is or restore to the next level. The dash pad is cracked under the mat and the original seat fabric is torn under the cover. Carpet isn’t original. I believe everything works except the parking brake and the CB radio. The fuel gauge does read low, 10 gallons shows a quarter tank. Period gun rack, cowboy hat holder, and CB all came with the truck and they are included.

Mechanical: Starts, runs, and drives out well. As I said above, pulls strong and smooth and the exhaust really barks :) See YouTube driving videos below. Best word to describe driving it is FUN. Per previous owner original 351 engine was rebuilt with RV cam and headers. Not sure of exact mileage but was done around 100k, so figure about 60k miles on engine. I did pull a valve cover and it’s clean as a pin, and I see it has been converted to Cleveland/Boss screw-in studs and guide plates. No noticeable smoke, major leaks or noises. I believe everything works except the parking brake and the CB. Equipped with a tank heater for easier cold starting in below zero weather. Winter deep lug studded traction tires have great tread and no cracks, but they are old. Probably fine for around the ranch, but if regular highway driving is planned, they should be replaced. And if you live in a state with strict vehicle safety inspections, they will no doubt find other things for you to fix, so plan accordingly. Overall it’s a fun driver as is, put it to work or restore to the next level.

Transportation is at the expense and arrangement of the BUYER, but I can refer you to a good shipping broker and will work with your transporter for loading, meet up, etc. Please research transportation options before purchasing. Once sold, I will cancel my insurance, so all liability for damages are the responsibility of the purchaser.

Payment: Winning bidder must contact me within 24 hours of auction end and make arrangements for payment at that time. A $500 non-refundable PayPal deposit is due immediately at auction end. The remainder is due via bank wire within 3 days of auction end. If no contact is made within 24 hours I reserve the right to re-list the vehicle, sell it to the next high bidder, or sell it otherwise.
