1978 Ford Ranchero 500. 400 V8 2bbl. C6 Automatic transmission. Very low miles. Last known registered 1983. Desert car since new. No rust ever. Non smoker. Solid. Starts, runs, drives and stops nice. Factory A/C, cruise control, tilt wheel, power brakes and steering. Front disc brakes. Excellent original factory tinted glass. Serviceable plastic lenses–not broken or busted. New parts include tires, radiator, fuel pump, water pump, water outlet, thermostat, ECM, and OEM style exhaust system. Custom built class C rear bumper hitch with 4-way trailer plug. No smoke out of the tail pipe or strange noises from under the hood. Few if any leaks or drips. Freshly serviced with chassis lube, new motor oil, PCV, air, fuel and oil filters. Magnum 500 wheels. Nice original interior. Dash pad is not cracked, sun checked or damaged. A new dash mat has helped protect it from the intense Arizona desert sun since we have had it here. Original paint is weak. Noted a few dents. A/C Heater control does not function correctly. Noted that the temp and flap position control levers move freely or without resistance. Suspect that the control cables are broken, loose retainer clamps or have become disconnected. We have not been under the dash to diagnose the condition of the failure. York type A/C compressor clutch engages when the power wire is connected, and ignition switched on. System needs recharge. Blower motor runs well at all speeds however warm air comes from the defroster and/or floor vents when switched on. Upper instrument cluster lights do not come on. Glove box door latch is loose. Tailgate does not always latch shut. There is a minor leak in the front bed floor cab hatch/cover–needs to be pulled up, cleaned, resealed and screwed back down. Vehicle includes new parts yet to be installed–headlight dimmer switch, idler arm, water pump to EGR valve temperature sensor and air cleaner housing to air inlet box “snorkel tube”. Original carburetor seems to leak down when parked for a few days–you may need to prime it with a few tablespoons of gas where then it starts easy. Overall, very good used 45-year-old condition. Needs a good detailing. Just fine as a daily driver, however we only drove it around the block a few times. You may want to check the condition of the front wheel bearing lube and re-pack them before taking it out for an extended drive. Engine runs strong and cool. Transmission shifts smooth. 99.9% complete and unmolested. This is a factory original car. Excellent for restoration.
