1984 Chevrolet Camaro Z28
For consignment, a 1984 version of the Chevrolet Camaro Z28. This car has the original Cream Beige paint job with the original tweed interior and looks very unassuming…that is until you turn the key. This year has a fixed non T-top roof, greenhouse rear glass, dual inset rectangular headlights, and an inset sculpted hood. With some recent maintenance work, and a beefed up 350ci V8 there is still a lot of gas to burn through on this 44,116 non verifiable mile baby, so let’s go search out a Mustang to have for lunch!
Note: Due to modifications of the emissions control devices installed by the manufacturer, please check your local, state, and federal laws to determine if this vehicle is applicable for use on public highways in your area.
Exterior
Wearing the entirety of its original Cream Beige paint which is set off nicely with gold accenting that encircles the entire lower body, we note some hazing of the paint, road rash and a few spider cracks in the neoprene bumpers. A black grille built into the neoprene front bumper is flanked by quad headlamps that are shrouded by the long lean hood and integral fog lights are below. The rear raked in spoiler is also beige and frames the iconic rectangular grid tail/signal/and backup lights which wrap around to the rear quarters. Up high is the full steel roof, that helps keep the chassis stiffer and keep road noise to a minimum. Speaking of the glass, there’s plenty more for the wrap-around greenhouse rear glass which serves as a “hatchback” if you will and works its way to the trunk. Factory correct gold tinted aluminum alloy wheels are wrapped in like new 215/65R15 rubber and adorn the 4 corners.
Interior
A swing of the doors and we see vertically embossed stitching in the tan vinyl panels and all black molded plastic for the door actuator, armrest, window crank and mirror joystick toggle. Moving inside, nice clean Medium Doeskin tweed centers with more of the smooth tan vinyl bolsters cover the high back buckets in front and a 2 plus 2 rear bench offers up some room for 2 more. A black topped center console is on the hump, and this rises to the original dash also in black. Clean tan carpeting floods the floors and is protected by tan carpeted mats. Everywhere else is covered in black vinyl or plastic which has been expertly molded to create a litany of interior shapes pleasing to the eye and touch. The original 3 spoke steering wheel fronts the factory gauge cluster complete with a tachometer and multitude of gauges to monitor engine function. An AM/FM factory installed stereo is in its proper home and belts tunes out through the rear cloth covered side speakers.
Drivetrain
Under the hood is a Chevrolet orange/red drenched 350ci V8 fitted with flat top cast pistons that is topped with an Edelbrock 600cfm 4-barrel carburetor. A pair of Edelbrock E-Street aluminum heads have been bolted on and have Comp Cams roller rockers to actuate the valves. Assisting in that actuation is a Comp Cams .470 lift camshaft and on back is a 700R4 4-speed automatic. The rear tires take the power from this mill via a 10-bolt 3.23 gear rear. All surfaces are clean and show very little in the way of rust or patina.
Undercarriage
Fairly clean floor tubs, which are stamped steel, are solid and rust free. A heavier coating of black rustproofing covers these surfaces as well as the unibody and suspension with all structurally sound and fully operational. We can note independent front coil spring suspension, and a torque arm with coil springs for the rear. Also, power disc brakes are upfront, and power drums for the rear. Headers are bolted to the mill and join up to a single exhaust that turns to dual tail pipes after exiting the Magnaflow muffler. We see the factory installed catalytic converter is still in its place, however the air recirculation tube has been cut and blocked off.
Drive-Ability
Just a great driver that lumbers a bit around corners when pushed, but all in all a real performer. Good solid braking, and all functions were working during my drive but I did hear a slight exhaust leak which I believe is coming from the capped off air tube on the catalytic converter and I also noticed the AC did not blow cold as the lines and compressor have been removed. It turned more than a few heads too!
A good example, nicely maintained, retaining much of its originality and with the built 350ci V8 under the hood it is appearing ready to sneak up to a Mustang and say BOO!
