Rare original survivor 1981 Plymouth Trail Duster PW150 4×4, last year of production. Purchased new in Southwest Montana’s high sagebrush and prickly pear cactus country, and lived a life of camping, fishing, and skiing the nearby mountains. I purchased the truck from the second and long term owner. Nicely optioned including factory skid plates, and coveted factory A/C. Original wagon wheels are included with the sale. I’ll do my best to describe this special truck below, please see the Photobucket album with detail pics including undercarriage and YouTube driving and walkaround videos.
Exterior: Original Cashmere paint still shines and presents well from 20 feet. There are several spots that have been touched up with a brush, noticeable when you get close. A few hail dings in hood and roof. Glass is good including windshield. No pitting on chrome/stainless moldings/bumper. Though I’m certain it’s never seen salt, there are areas of corrosion where mud packs in and holds moisture – behind left rear wheel (hole, visible), and in front of both rear wheels(small blisters, hard to see). There’s an antenna hole on left front fender that has a rubber plug as shown. Underside is clean, factory stickers and chalk marks on frame and axles still present. There is a small rust spot in driver floor, where moisture collected from snowy boots melting. Again, check the detail pics including underside in the referenced Photobucket album below.

Interior: Original, clean and presentable. Dash, seats, door panels all very nice – driver seat upholstery has had some repairs. Gauges all work(fuel gauge reads low), lights, heater, radio, etc all working – but A/C doesn’t blow cold. Horn is non-op. Headliner sagging in a few spots and is pinned up in one. This truck was not factory equipped with a console, but the one shown is correct for it, and is included. Overall very usable and functional rig, ready to drive as is.

Mechanical: Starts, runs and drives out fine. Powered by the venerable 318 Mopar small block with bulletproof NP435 four speed and NP208 transfer case. Sort of a rolling anvil. No noise, smoke, or noticeable leaks. Equipped with the heavy duty 9 1/4″ rear end, and HD 4000lb front end with highway-friendly 3.21 gears. New Flowmaster/stainless dual exhaust. Could use some carb tuning, it’s cold blooded and has a flat spot off idle. A/C components are all there but doesn’t blow cold. Clutch will chatter occasionally, especially in reverse. Fuel gauge reads low. Parking brake needs adjustment, it works but won’t hold the truck. Currently running newer 33″ tires that have good tread and no cracks – they are pretty noisy on the pavement. The aftermarket wheels shown have some blisters in the chrome. BOTH the aftermarket setup and all 4 of the original wheels are included, only have 3 of the original hubcaps, and they aren’t perfect. As with any older vehicle, it will need maintenance and repairs along the way. If you live in a state with very strict vehicle inspections, they will no doubt and something for you to fix, so expect that. These trucks are noted for reliability and build quality, and are fairly simple to work on with good parts availability.
