For sale at : Survivor 1972 GMC K2500 4×4, very original truck other than upgraded roller cam 350. Truck spent most of it’s life in the dry Snake River country of Southwest Idaho, with the last few years here in the sagebrush and prickly pear cactus of Montana. It’s never seen salt, yet it has the ever-present rocker and cab corner rust that’s endemic to these trucks. Mud thrown up from the front wheels builds up and collects moisture in those areas. That said, it’s in much better shape than anything you’ll find back east. See 140+ detail pics in FLICKR album listed below. Great driving truck that runs strong and smooth. 4×4 works great and so does Warn 8274 winch. Vintage Travelux topper is in fair condition with some water damage. Truck is still running the original spiral shocks, blue dial Spicer hubs, and still has the original jack and tools behind the seat. Please see detail pics at FLICKR album listed below and YouTube videos.
Exterior: Original paint that’s weathered over the last 50 years to a perfect patina. Character dents and dings here and there as shown in pics. Glass is good including windshield. Extra GMC fender badges included. As mentioned above, it DOES have rust in the rockers, cab corners. and outer floor supports where they meet the rockers. It is in MUCH better condition than the rust belt trucks with their sitting-at-the-bottom-of-a-lake rot. Windshield frame and cowl appear to be in great shape, all the usual problem areas around the wheels are clean, and of course we don’t see frame rot here out west. There is a spot of rust at the very front of the box rails where the topper seal held moisture, I cleaned that up and treated it with converter and POR-15 before replacing the canopy. The box floor is in great shape with only a couple spots of rust at the back near the tailgate. There are extra holes in box as shown in pics. Tailgate is bent along top edge and left side, see pics. Vintage Travelux canopy is in fair condition, roof leaked at the seam and caused some damage inside. I sealed the leak with RV roof sealant, but the inside paneling will need repairs if you want it looking nice. It’s a really cool old truck that’s truly a window to a bygone era.
Interior: Clean, original, presentable and usable. No rodents or smells. Dash is cracked under the mat, and seat upholstery is torn under the saddle blanket cover. Original floor mat is torn in several places as shown. Glass is good including windshield. Lights work, wipers work and heater motor blows but heater switch failed, need to replace the heater control and switch, it’s readily available. Gauges work except speedo, a new speedo cable is included. Tach and radio are non-op. Overall good driver condition.
Mechanical: Starts, runs, and drives out well. Engine has been upgraded to a rebuilt 90s roller cam 350 that runs smooth and pulls strong. Don’t know exact mileage on rebuild and I don’t have paperwork. Estimated by previous owner to be 20k miles on engine. Clutch, transmission and transfer case are smooth with no grinding or noises. Drives straight and true, could be a daily with some new tires. 4×4 works great in both high and low range and Warn 8274 winch works great as well. I used both this winter, we had a lot of snow early here out west. Lights, wipers, E-brake etc all working, heater fan switch needs to be replaced, blower motor runs with a jumper wire. Does have typical old 4×4 leaks, will leave a spot on the garage floor from both the transmission and t-case. If you live in a state with strict vehicle safety inspections, they will no doubt find things for you to fix, so plan accordingly. I’ve driven this quite a bit and it always draws a crowd wherever I stop. Really a fun driver as is, put it to work on the ranch or restore to the next level.
