Seller is a Volvo enthusiast. I was contacted last December and asked if I’d like to save a low mileage 1971 Volvo 144 that had been stored in a garage and not run or driven in five years. I purchased the car and had it towed to my house in Central Virginia.

Once all the grime was washed off the exterior and the interior was cleaned of some dust and mildew, the car was a very presentable classic Volvo. I acquired the car from the original family owners. It was purchased new in Colorado Springs and eventually passed down to the grand daughter in Richmond, Va. The 116,400 miles is true and original. This 144 is now needing a forever home.

Here’s what was done in the past three months to get the car road worthy to where it is today:

New battery

all new front brakes: new dual hoses, new calipers, new rotors, new pads, new master cylinder, bled brakes/fresh fluid

New rear brake hoses

fresh oil and filter

drained and cleaned fuel tank, blew out fuel lines and replaced rubber fuel lines where needed

fresh spark plugs, cleaned cap and rotor

cleaned and touched up small areas of rust with factory Safari yellow paint

replaced original 15 inch stock wheels/tires with a freshly painted set of 14 inch Volvo 240 wheels/tires, new chrome bolts and trim rings

** See photo. The original wheels, hub caps and tires come with the car. The tires hold air but they are old and tired.

new trunk carpet (jack and Volvo tool bag is in the trunk)

What doesn’t work:

fuel gauge

original factory am radio hums but is not pulling in any stations

drivers seat sag… needs new seat straps under the cushion

gas struts that hold up the trunk lid are shot

I did a wax but the car could use a good professional buffing to really bring out the single stage original paint. A couple small spots of rust were touched up. The biggest issue is a hole about the size of a quarter behind the drivers side rear wheel at the top inside of the wheel well. I amateurely patched and painted it.

All glass is good and all windows roll up and down as they should.

The interior is excellent… especially the headliner

The car starts, runs and drives well. It still has the original twin SU carburetors. It’s not fast and the automatic transmission isn’t going to make it feel like a ralleye car but it’s a solid, honest vintage Volvo and 140 series cars are hard to find in any condition.

Garaged in Central Virginia, near the Charlottesville Va. airport. Yes, it would safely make a long trip but my personal rule with old cars is unless they’re only an hour away I have them shipped. I am happy to share a shipping contact that I have used for many years.

Personal inspections encouraged with an appointment. I’ll try to answer any questions sent to me through Ebay. I need a non-refundable $500 deposit via paypal immediately…balance within 4 business days via cash or bank wire. Thanks for looking.
