Very rare 1962 Lincoln Continental Convertible – California car!

  • Excellent Restoration Candidate or Driver!
  • Tons of Work Just Completed!

We recently found this beautiful 1962 Lincoln Continental convertible here in Southern California after it had been sitting for nearly 16 years. The car was last registered in 2005 and then simply parked. We were told that the previous owner had restored the car and unfortunately passed away during the process. The local shop that worked on the car eventually purchased the car but they simply parked the car in their lot. Once we heard about this car we were determined to save it and get it back on the road to start another chapter with a new owner.

Highlights:

  • Early Continental Convertible
  • California Car (Rock Solid/Rust Free)
  • Over $4000 In Service Work Just Completed
  • Beautiful Peanut Butter Leather Interior

Mechanical:

The car runs, drives and brakes awesome! Before we attempted to start the car we soaked the cylinders and went through the entire fuel and cooling systems. We then installed a new carburetor, rebuilt the fuel pump and did a tune up. We turned the car over to build oil pressure and then attempted to fire it, which it fired right up. The engine sounds great and leads us to believe it was rebuilt. We also serviced the transmission, went through the brakes and serviced the rear end. We took it for a test drive and it drove very nice. Two of the high pressure hydraulic lines were leaking, so we replaced those too. The brake pedal is very firm and the brakes work great. When we serviced the brakes they appeared to have been done recently. The transmission also shifts very smooth. The windows are working and the rear windows go down as they should when you open the doors. We tried to open the top and nothing happened. The lights are also not working at the moment. Our goal was to simply to get the car running and driving and to find it a new caretaker that will either restore it, or to sort out the odds and ends and have a nice driver.

Exterior:

We had the car detailed and the paint cleaned up great! The car looks to have been repainted at some point, as it is a multi stage (base/clearcoat) paint. All of the bright work looks very nice! There are no dings or dents to speak of and the grille and bumpers are in excellent shape. The top appears to have been replaced and is in good condition with the exception of the rear plastic window that needs to be replaced. Due to the car being parked outside, the trunk and the hood are are sun baked and the clear is coming off.

Interior:

The interior is incredible. The entire interior must have also have been redone when the car was restored many years ago. Whomever did the work did and excellent job. The leather looks and feel great and the peanut butter color contrasts so well with the black and chrome on the car. The carpet and door panels also look like new. There is some light pitting on some of the chrome inside on some of the knobs and the horn handle.

The car would make a fun driver, or a perfect candidate for a high end restoration. As you can see from the photos, the car is in excellent shape with no rot or rust, which is very rare to find.
