1956 CHRYSLER NEW YORKER NEWPORT 2DR HRDTP COUPE.
FOUND THIS CAR IN A GARAGE, IT HAD BEEN PARKED IN 1984. FROM WHAT I WAS TOLD IT HAS BEEN A NEW MEXICO CAR ALL IT’S LIFE. PREVIOUS OWNER BOUGHT IN THE EARLY 70’S. I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM THE MANS ESTATE.
SEEMS THIS WAS A VERY LOADED MODEL. IT HAS POWER SEATS , POWER WINDOWS, WONDERBAR RADIO AND EVEN A UNDER DASH RECORD PLAYER, RECORD PLAYER IS MISSING–THE CASE REMAINS AS SHOWN IN PICS AND IT HAS THE CHROME WIRE WHEELS.
ONCE I GOT THE CAR HOME I BOUGHT NEW TIRES FOR IT AT A COST OF $600.00 MOUNTED AND BALANCED. REMOVED FUEL TANK AND WASHED IT OUT, CHANGED THE ENGINE OIL, CLEANED THE CARBURETOR A BIT AND PUT IN A BATTERY. GAVE IT FRESH FUEL AND THE OLD GIRL FIRED RIGHT UP. IT REALLY NEEDS THE CARB REBUILT. ENGINE IS THE 354 HEMI WHICH SOUNDS GREAT DOESN’T SMOKE AT ALL AND HOLDS GREAT OIL PRESSURE. EXHAUST IS A BIT LOUD SO PROBABLY NEEDS NEW MUFFLERS. AIR CONDITIONING IS STILL HOOKED UP RUNNING A BELT. THE CAR HAS NO BRAKES EXCEPT FOR THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND IT TENDS TO HANG UP SO I HAVEN’T TRIED TO DRIVE THE CAR AT ALL. ALSO THE RADIATOR LEAKS SO IT WILL NEED ATTENTION.
AS FAR AS RUST THE UNDERSIDE OF THE CAR IS RUST FREE. THE REAR LOWER QUARTER HAVE A LITTLE RUST AND THE LOWER ROCKERS IN FRONT OF THE REAR WHEELS HAVE SOME BLISTERING. THE CAR WAS REPAINTED IN THE 70’S FROM WHAT I WAS TOLD. YOU SEE SOME DIFF SHADES OF GREEN IF IT GOT SCRATCHED THE OWNER TOUCHED IT UP WITH A SPRAY CAN.
