1949 GMC /Like Chevy 3100 Chevrolet
!
’49 GMC Truck with hydraulic dump bed – this is one great ol’ truck. This one came from a farm in north central Kansas, and had been on the same farm as long as anyone could remember. Like most modern farms, they went to bigger trucks, and I was lucky enough to pick it up.
This one was still being used during harvest up until the last couple of years – the gentleman I purchased it from, remembered overheating it during harvest as a kid (he guessed he was 13 and driving during harvest!) when the engine started knocking and put a rod through the side of the block. His dad was not very happy. After harvest they started searching for a GMC engine but couldn’t find one (no internet yet!) so they sourced a 235 Chevy from a local junkyard, had the local machine shop rebuild it, and they installed it in the barn, using the old hay trolley hanging from the ceiling. That is the same engine it has to this day, and he guessed it probably had about 10k miles, although that is just a guess. Lots of history with this one.
So my procedure is basically the same whenever I bring an old truck home, clean it up, fresh gas, clean the points, check fluids, and see if it will fire. This fired right up, and sounds excellent! It carries good oil pressure, no smoke, or bad noises, even the fuel gauge appears to work. The master cylinder was dry, but when I filled it – the brakes pumped up and work pretty good – this even has power brakes! The brakes are spongy and will at least need bled. And remember this truck has been sitting for some time, and will need a front to back service, like any old vehicle that has been sitting
The doors shut well, and windows roll up & down – it shifts through all the gears just like it should. Probably the best part is the PTO driven hydraulic hoist, it works flawlessly, and will make hauling anything around the home or farm a snap to unload. All in all just a wonderful old truck that with a few hours of tinkering can be a workhorse around your farm, home, or even landscaping business.
This truck will come with a good clean VIN matching Kansas title, and I am a Kansas dealer which means I am insured and bonded, also, please check my previous feedback from old truck sales – no disappointments!
