This is a one of a kind barn find. 1948 ford coupe “STAR TREK”50’s street rod. Built by air craft technician John Collins. He combined traditional rod construction with space-age electronics. The car was featured in the sept. 1978 issue of Hot Rod Magazine as the “Star Trek Hot Rod”. Many hours of labor went into creating this car. It took 4 years of hard work and ingenuity. The avionics is out of this world. The engine is a built 1957 Olds V/8 with Jahns pistons reworked heads, Engle 409 cam, mallory dist. handmade headers, it is also cudtomized with 54 buick headlights & 49 linc. tailights. Inside the 4 seats are from a DC-6 aircraft. There are so many switches & gauges I can’t list them all. To name a few the complex array of dials, switchs, gauges and panels provide monitoring for the systems volt meter, ammeter, water, oil & hydro temps & fuels, also manifold & hydro pressures. The panel also provides master caution and warning lights for 21 points on the engine. The rear wheel wells have been radiused to provide clearance for the ols style cheater slicks mounted on keystone rims. The transmission is a 4 speed hydro – sutomatic. The car also has air conditioning (not working). The air craft gauges run on a 24 volt system. Also provided with this car is a auxiliry 115v to 24v dc generator that plugs into the car to run gauges.and lights for display. If you are a airplane buff yoy will love this car. I believe it should be in a aircraft museum just the value of these vintage gauges is amazing! I also have many of the original schematics & diagrams for the wiring of gauges, switchs & lights. This car is a real treat to drive and gets a lot of looks at car events. When you see this car in person you just can’t believe it.
