Original 1945 WWII U.S. Army Ford GPW 1/4 Ton Jeep

This is a restoration project and has many issues and missing parts, however, it has a matching tub, data plate, frame and a clear California title.

Frame: Front gussets have been removed, frame horns are intact and straight; has extra metal welded on to support the winch, but nothing that can’t be easily cleaned up with a grinder. All body mounts are intact, as is the machine gun support and all shock mounts. Rear “A” frame has been cut and needs to be replaced. Left rear frame horn is straight and intact including the bumper mounting tab, the right one is missing about half inch off the end. Transfer case transmission support beam mounts have also been slightly cut to accommodate the T-90 transmission. Frame is straight with no serious rot or rust and can be easily restored. Serial number: 273822.

Running Gear: Front and rear axle assemblies are both WWII, shocks and springs have been replaced over the years with aftermarket parts. Brakes have been changed to 11″ brakes, easily changed back to original. Original Ford skid plate is intact and in great shape.

Engine: Engine is post-war replacement, no serial number that I could find, I believe its a late 1940s early 1950s government purchased replacement engine. These are very common in WWII Jeeps, especially the Ford GPWs.

Transmission/Transfer: T-90 transmission with later transfer case.

Body Tub is pretty typical, driver’s wheel well has been modified to accept a larger seat, front floor is solid and can probably be saved, rear floor is bad and back panel has been cut. Entire body has a thin skim coat of body filler, comes off easily.

Front fenders are straight with no extra holes, they have a thin skim coat, but look very good. Frame mounting tabs are broken which is typical, but an easy repair. Hood has had holes welded up and bracing added, all easily reversable, no rust out or rot in the hat channels. Grill is in excellent condition with no damage or modifications, no “F:” mark which is correct as Ford used Willys grills later in production.

Steering has been changed over to a more modern type of system, but once again they didn’t cut the dash or frame to do this, they only removed the dash bracket.

Front has a large winch assembly welded to the front bumper and frame, can be easily removed.
